Happy World Penguin Day 2022 to everyone! Today we celebrate the wonderful world of flightless birds. But how do you do that exactly?
About World Penguin Day
What is today about? I found this definition in our archives:
‘International Penguin Day (or World Penguin Day) is a time to reflect on progress made, to call for change and to celebrate acts of courage and determination by ordinary penguins, who have played an extraordinary role in the history of their countries and communities.’
This gave me an idea. Why not interview ordinary penguins to see how they find inspiration in life and to see how they celebrate this unique day!

‘What day? No, never heard of it.’

‘I know International Bird Day or something, right! I’m like it’s good they do something for birds but it’d be better if they organised something for young birds like me, a festival or like something fun. Oh my God, it’s so BORING out here.’

Harry: ‘You don’t understand! If we get our own day, why not the kiwis? Why not the ostriches, the emus, the takahēs, kākāpōs, or the Falkland streamer duck? It’s speciest, that’s what it is!’
Victor: ‘Jesus, Harry, you’re making an issue out of everything. People find us cute, so we get a day. Just relax, go out, have fun!’
Harry: ‘YOU’RE FUCKING BLIND VICTOR! THAT’S WHAT YOU ARE. RELAX? HAVE FUN? BECAUSE HUMANS TELL US SO? BECAUSE THEY FIND US CUTE? DON’T YOU SEE THE GIANT TRAP WE’RE WADDLING INTO??’
Victor: ‘We’re not dodos, Harry.’
